There are times when words fail me. There are times when words aren’t enough for me. There are times when words hurt me. There are times when words free me. There are times when words protect me. There are times when words ring the gong in my chest. There are times when words have their own day. There are times when words remind me. There are times when words give me faith. There are times when words root me. There are times when words upset me. There are times when words break down my walls. There are times when words build them. There are times when words make me happy. There are times when words give me boners. There are times when words make me laugh. There are times when words motivate me. There are times when words direct me. There are times when words intimidate me. There are times when words lose me. There are times when words discover me. There are times when words write me. There are times when words are too wordy. There are times when words explore me. There are times when words make me uncomfortable. There are times when words question me. There are times when words confuse me. There are times when words hold me. There are times when words push me. There are times when words overwhelm me. There are times when words move me.
Words are why I write. I write because they are always going through my head-- when I’m trying to make sense of the universe, when I’m trying to make sense of myself, when I’m trying not to lose faith, and when I’m trying to make gluten free pancakes. Frank McCourt wrote, “Every moment of your life, you’re writing. Even in your dreams you’re writing,” and it’s time for the words I’ve always been writing in my head to be sent into the world.
Your Frank McCourt quote is a wonderful summation. I, too, write in my dreams...
